Can structure and intuitive creativity coexist? A question I keep asking myself. And I fail to find the answer as I never have the feeling that there can only be one reply to this question. As in Elegy 1, the creative cosmos seems to dominate. To let it go or to open it up to make room for a conservative structure of thought seems unimaginable, even if this should be an absolute part of the balance. Thus, while there is freedom in creative work, there is always the striving for structure. But it is also this conflict that leads to the confrontation with these two sides, even if the order in the chaotic creative consensus led by emotions can never take the lead as a whole until there is the will to exchange the organic variety of colours for straight lines, calm and predictability. The longing for it remains, a diffuse utopian idea of what it would be like if...A never endling elegy (lament).

As a contrast, the striving for this very chaos also lives in the pre-drawn structure. The colours that I chose for Elegy 2 are therefore almost radiant. With this I emphasize how much such a longing for supposed letting go can blind and inhibit to allow such colourful nuances of spontaneity, creativity and cheerfulness to penetrate, soften and reformat the conservative structures. And once again there remains a longing for something elusive.

Elegie 1 & 2 are my biggest paintings so far, to give this basic recurring conflict resolution the space it deserves.
